How to edit text in a PDF online, including scanned PDFs
PDFs are designed to look the same everywhere, which is why they are hard to change. Edit PDF lets you retype existing text, add new lines and hide old content without installing any software.
Fix a word or a line
- Open Edit PDF and drop your file.
- With Select active, click the line you want to change. It becomes an editable text box in a matching font and size.
- Type your correction. Use the panel on the right to change font, size, colour, bold or alignment.
- Press Save edited PDF and download the result.
Add new text
Choose Text in the toolbar and click where the text should start. To move it afterwards, drag the blue four-way arrow handle at its left edge; you can keep typing after you move it.
Scanned PDFs
A scan is a photograph of a page, so there are no letters to edit at first. The editor detects this and offers to convert it. Text recognition (OCR) reads English and Hindi, then turns each line into editable text. Always proofread the result, especially numbers and names.
Hide something precisely
Use White-out. Draw a box over a whole area, or switch to Brush, pick a size from 2 to 60 points, and paint over small details such as a single digit or a stamp. Zoom in for fine work. Remember that white-out covers content on screen and in print, but the hidden content still exists inside the file. To share a document safely, also use Compress PDF with “turn pages into pictures”, which flattens everything.
Good practice
- Only edit documents you have the right to change.
- Keep the original file.
- Check the saved PDF on another device before you send it.
