Sign guide
How to sign a PDF online for free
Many forms only need a visible signature, not a certificate-based digital signature. You can add one in under a minute.
Three ways to create your signature
- Draw: sign with a mouse, trackpad, stylus or finger. Choose black or blue ink.
- Type: type your name and pick a handwriting style.
- Upload: take a photo of your signature on plain white paper. The tool removes the white background so only the ink appears on the PDF.
Step by step
- Open Edit PDF and drop the PDF.
- Click Sign in the toolbar and create your signature.
- Tick “Remember on this device” if you sign often. It is stored only in your browser.
- Click the page where the signature should go, then drag the corner to resize it.
- Add today's date with the Date tool if the form asks for it, then save.
Is this legally valid?
A drawn or typed signature on a PDF is widely accepted for everyday forms, applications and internal documents. Some legal and government processes require an Aadhaar eSign or a Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) instead. If a form says “digitally signed” or asks for a DSC, use the method that authority specifies.
